Miserable Miles is a fun and challenging 5.5 km obstacle race that takes contestants over a 212 meter vertical ascent through the stunning vistas of Misery Mountain, located in northern Alberta’s community of Peace River.
Miserable Miles is a fun and challenging 5.5 km obstacle race that takes contestants over a 212 meter vertical ascent through the stunning vistas of Peace River’s Misery Mountain.
The volunteer led event was born out of a passion for a good challenge, a respect and love of the natural beauty of the Peace River valley, and most importantly, to promote and support the communities of the Peace River region.
In September of 2019, the 4th Annual Miserable Miles race attracted close to 300 challengers from all around the region, and was not only able to raise approximately $11,000 in support of local mental health initiatives and the Peace River Ski Club but also a truck full of groceries for the local Food Bank. Due to COVID-19 restrictions Miserable Miles was forced to get creative and hosted Misery Goes Virtual. The Miserable Miles community did not disappoint with a ton of fun with virtual challenges and locally sourced prizes, with almost 100 participants, we were also able to donate $1,000 to the Rotaract clubs packed packs initiative.
Miserable Miles is a grassroots event that celebrates community spirit. The sucess of event is made possible through the countless volunteers, local municipal governments and businesses – each who gave their time, direct financial contributions, and in-kind donations tomake a celebration of the beauty of our region a reality.
